I recently came across a story where an Oxfordshire resident placed an advert on Gumtree to rent his back garden shed which cost him £800 for up to £450 per month. A good idea you are probably thinking as you start designing your ad and following suit but what about the implications…..surely there are implications to this?
The answer is yes. Although it was a good idea the shed had no insulation, water supply or heating so is deemed by the council as an unacceptable living area which is understandable. It does raise the question of is a garden building rentable? What if I was to insulate the building, add a water supply and electricity to the building? Could this be rented?
For any query like this it is always a council issue and each area’s council’s rules and regulations differ so you would certainly have to do your research before going ahead with the idea.
